LED Info

LED Lighting has officially transformed the outdoor lighting industry. We never imagined being able to run ALL our low voltage lights on just one 150W transformer or not having to precisely manage our voltage drop calculations. Although the LED technology has significantly improved over the past decade, there are still a few very important considerations when choosing an LED light source:

  • LAMP LIFE: Despite what you hear, LED lamps DO NOT LAST FOREVER! Especially when used outdoors among lightning storms, bugs/ants, rain, etc. Always read the fine print when selecting an LED lamp. Many will bury in the packaging “based on operating two hours a day”. Our premium LED lamps are conservatively rated for 50,000 hours
  • LIGHT OUTPUT: The lumen output of our 12V LED products are comparable to the lumen output of a 20W MR16 halogen all the way up to a 175W Mercury Vapor lamp. The lumen output of our 120V LED products are comparable to a 50W Halogen/Mecury Vapor lamp up to a 250W Mercury Vapor. You’ll get the same if not MORE light output at a fraction of the wattage.
  • EFFICIENCY: The upfront expense of the LED fixtures will pay for themselves in the first 3-4 years of their life because they use significantly less energy. When you compare a 175W mercury vapor tree light with a 22W LED, there is an energy savings of $54 per year and $270 over 5 years.

Most new outdoor lighting systems are LED, and existing systems can easily be upgraded to LED by simply changing out the light bulbs. Be sure to use high-quality LEDs that are designed for outdoor use and can handle the additional stress factors of being outdoors. Our MR16 LEDs have enhanced ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) protection, heat overload protection technology, and a fully potted PC board. We adhere a date code to our LEDs as they leave our warehouse to ensure you receive the full warranty guaranteed by the manufacturer. It also allows you to return any defectives without needing to save your receipt – we know you purchased it from us, and we can fulfill any warranty needs. You can’t do that on Amazon!! 😊  Luckily, we have very few defectives aside from unfortunate acts of God.

LED lights are available in 2 color options: Warm White (2700K-3000K) which resembles traditional halogen, or Cool White (5000K-5700K) which is closer to traditional Mercury Vapor lights. We stock a variety of LED color temperatures, beam spreads, and wattages to truly customize your lighting project. As a rule of thumb, use the Warm White LED’s to illuminate your house but use Cool White LED’s to illuminate plant material.

Using LED lamps not only diminishes energy consumption, but it also eliminates many maintenance issues that can often occur in the life of the fixture. The LED lamps do not generate much heat, so they are easier on the wear and tear of the fixture sockets, gaskets, and housings. In underwater lights and recessed fixtures, it is especially ideal to have a long-lasting lamp that runs cool and reduces the possibility of removing the factory-installed gaskets that keep the fixture from retaining moisture.
